Slice of Life Day Day 12

Teaching today was the most exhausting thing I’ve ever done. It was like the last day of school + an early snow dismissal + THE END OF CIVILIZATION all rolled together times a million. The kids are (understandably) distracted. But oh man do I need a nap.

That’s it. That’s all I can think of right now.

The kids are consumed by Covid-19 rumors and news. Their constant connection to news, thanks to their phones, meant they received every news alert (suspended NHL season, canceled March Madness) in near real-time. Phones would vibrate, a few students would glance at them, and then the chaos would erupt.

They also receive rumors and incorrect information via their phones. Friends and family members text all day long with “news”.

In the midst of this, we are all trying valiantly to text. We have no idea if this day will be our last in-person day or not. We are frantically trying to reach benchmarks before school (possibly) moves online.

We were supposed to have a student half day and teacher PD day Friday in order to prepare remote learning plans, but this evening they canceled the student portion of the day. Teachers will plan for 5 hours and students will return to class on Monday.

I’m exhausted. Good lord, am I exhausted.
