Slice of Life Day 1

It’s March and that means it’s Slice of Life time! Once again, my students and I will be challenging ourselves to write a blog post every day in March. My students are blogging on Edublogs and I’ll be here.

I love the SOL challenge because it helps my students get into a habit of writing and get over the feeling that everything they write must be earth-shattering and life-changing. In that spirit, today I’ll share what my day was like.

My St. Patrick’s Day sneakers made their debut today.

My usual Sunday routine starts with SAT tutoring, but today I had an unexpected day off. That meant I had time to visit the new Lidl supermarket that opened in the next town. In honor if it being March 1st I broke out my new Brooks St. Patrick’s Day sneakers.

Lidl was great! I’m still waiting for a local Trader Joe’s (it will open in the fall), but Lidl was better than my usual supermarket. I stocked up on some essentials and picked up some fresh bread. Of course, Lidl didn’t have everything I needed, so I had to visit a few other stores to get my chocolate oat milk, mini Pepsi cans, and a few other odds and ends.

Making the dogs’ enrichment for the week

I spent the majority of the afternoon meal prepping. I always spend some time on Sunday making the dogs’ enrichment for the week. This means packing Kongs and other toys with food before freezing them for the week. The dogs then get a frozen treat each night. It tires them out mentally!

Once the dogs’ food was in the freezer I moved on to making some human food. I cooked some lasagna and froze an additional lasagna. I also made oatmeal raisin breakfast cookies (based on the ones that Starbucks used to sell).

While the sauce for the lasagna was simmering in the oven (love my Dutch oven!), Chris and I took the dogs for a walk. We walked about 2 miles at Turkey Swamp park, and while it was chilly we enjoyed the sun! The dogs dug in the mulch, climbed a log, and barked at some swans.

Dublin and Navan

The nice photos I tried to take didn’t work out very well. I have a lot of photos that look like the one above. Oh well!

It’s now 8pm and I’m finally relaxing. I listened to my audiobook while cooking and then watched some of the Law & Order SVU marathon that was on TV. (Side note: there’s always a Law & Order marathon on and I love it). Chris and I watched last night’s SNL during dinner and now I’m settled in to watch McMillions on HBO while I check in my students’ blogs.
