Slice of Life Day 4

This is the tale of the snow day that wasn’t.

When I went to bed last night the district had already called a delayed opening. I set the alarm for a half hour later than normal and checked the forecast. We had about an inch of snow on the ground at bedtime and the forecast called for another 4-6 inches. The odds looked very good for our first snow day of the day, even though a wintry mix was falling.

As I drifted off to sleep I started planning what I would do on my day off: bake Irish soda bread, watch a few shows on Netflix, work on my committee reading, and take the digs outside to play in the snow. Because spring break isn’t until the end of April a snow day sounded great. Plus, the flu is making its way around the school so a day away is a day I’m not exposed to flu germs!

When my alarm beeped at 6:15am I opened my eyes. It took only a few seconds for me to realize something was wrong; I couldn’t see snow piled on the bushes outside my window. If we had 4+ inches of snow it would coat all the trees and bushes. A glance outside confirmed my fear- there was very little snake and what was on the ground was already melting!

Chris and I took the dogs for their morning walk and I complained the whole time about the stupid slush. Where was the snow I was promised?! We made the best of it by taking the dogs into the backyard for some playtime at 7am, but eventually I had to get ready for work. While I was annoyed by the muck and slush the dogs did have some fun. Now if only we could get a real snow storm sometime this month!
